Triathlete! How ’bout them apples? Yep, after being the ultimate spectator for the past 6 years while I raced, she took the plunge and completed her first race on Sunday, June 15 at the Tri to Win in Carroll County, MD.
She was nervous about the race, particularly the swim but she did great. And she was concerned a bit about the bike but she was faster than we both thought she’d be and that caused me to miss her coming in to T2. And she rode her Trek 7300FX hybrid! She was 10th of 21 in her AG. Not bad, eh? I think she might have caught the tri fever. She wants a road bike now. I think she needs to get one before before her next race – Iron Girl on August 24. We’ve been browsing bikes.
I did the race too and was pleased, but not thrilled, with my results. I’ve done this race 2 other times and in 2006 I won my Age Group (there are A LOT of first-timers at this race). So my goal was to place in my AG. I did. 3rd. By 8 seconds. But I wasn’t real happy with my run. The course was changed and I’m certain it was longer than 3.1 miles but not long enough for me to have been happy with my run pace. I’ve got to lose some lbs.

Hats off to your wife, Russ! I am so intimidated by trying a tri, and my excuse has been my Trek 7500 Hybrid bike – dang she took away that excuse and made it look easy!!!!
Way to go Stacey………..
