The Races

2009: SavageMan Half Iron Triathlon

2007 Edition: 4 races in 4 weeks during September in different parts of Maryland.  Each race was a different distance.
Sunday, September 9, 2007 – Annapolis Triathlon

The swim takes place in the Severn River, in brackish water (a mix of salt and fresh water), fed from the Chesapeake Bay. The scenic bike route traverses the historic streets of Annapolis leading into our rolling countryside and farmlands of Anne Arundel County including several moderate climbs along well maintained brick and paved roads. Riders will be treated to a challenging as well as scenic course. The run course is “the” unique challenge as the route leads out of the city dock of Annapolis offering racers the opportunity to retrace historic routes taken in years gone by and utilizing parts of the nationally recognized Annapolis 10-Mile Run route.

Sunday September 16, 2007 – SavageMan Half Iron Triathlon

The SavageMan is truly a one-of-a-kind triathlon. The half-iron distance event combines stunning scenery with a course so challenging that it is, without doubt, the “World’s Most Savage Triathlon”.  There is a new toughest climb in all of triathlon, and it is the Westernport Wall! The Wall rises 800 feet over one mile for an average of 15%, including one block with over 31% pitch on a road so steep it has long been closed to traffic.

Sunday, September 23, 2007 – General Smallwood Sprint Triathlon

This one took me to southern MD after being in the western part of the state and provided much less of a challenge than the week prior and the final week.

Saturday, September 29, 2007 – ChesapeakeMan Ultra Distance Triathlon

The big challenge, the Ironman distance race – 140.6 miles on MD’s eastern shore.
